Cleaning

Yes I am sick. But having fibromyalgia has taught me one thing....work through it.

Well I do anything right now it's SLOW MO....I feel like an 80 yr. old walking sometimes.

Anyway while on Pinterest I started thinking back to when my boys used to live here. I would make our homemade laundry soap. That saved us tons of money! I stopped doing it because it's just David and I now and that's a lot of laundry soap to have. However, now I'm thinking of doing it again.

I had to clean my nebulizer (mask, cups) and every time I do it I'm using white vinegar. Which is what started my brain to move in the cleaning direction.

I remembered a few pins from years back on cleaning naturally. I'm thinking I'm going to have to start doing it this way because of the asthma ... just to play it safe. AND save money!

So I cleaned my nebulizer stuff. I had a bowl of white vinegar (WV) and water. WHY WASTE IT? So I popped it into the microwave and boiled it (8 min.). It wiped clean. And it was cleaner than when I used store bought stuff!

Next I had found a pin saying they cleaned their oven with WV / water plus baking soda. I poured some on the stovetop then sprinkled it with baking soda (BS) it sizzled :D I let it sit for a few minutes. I didn't / COULDN'T scrub because I have no strength for that yet. But I didn't have to anyway. I really couldn't believe how much I got off because I've been scrubbing at some of the spots for years. It wiped up clean - again cleaner than anything I've tried from the store!!!

Next I through the water mixture that was left into the dishwasher. It's been looking kinda bad! Anyway I sprinkled BS on top of it. Started the empty dishwasher. After a few minutes I opened up the dishwasher and wiped at a few places. Poured a little WV - sprinkled more BS. Closed the door again....it looks amazing!

I can't wait to get well because I've got a lot of pins ready to try!

I'm going to:
Make my own laundry soap
Make my own fabric softener
Make my own dishwasher tabs
Make my own floor cleaners
EVERYTHING - Can't you tell how excited I am :D

Illness

Back in September I became ill with bronchitis. Ever since I have not recovered.

On December 17th I went to see a Pulmonologist and was diagnosed with asthma. I was already on medication treating this illness but he increased the prednisone I was taking. I also had an increase in what Advair disk (putting me from the 100 once daily to the 250 twice daily).

On Saturday December 20th my wonderful husband changed out our front door. The frame had been there since the house was built in the 1950's. We thought nothing of wearing masks because I never had to before! I swept up all that old dust and cleaned up the wood pieces for him. All without thinking!!! Needless to say ....

By Monday December 22nd I took myself to the hospital at Baylor Grapevine. There they gave me a different nebulizer treatment from what I had been getting. It helped so they sent me home. Earlier in the day I had called the Pulmonologist to ask for more medication and told the receptionist my issues with not doing well. She made an appointment for the following day. So when they released me I knew I'd be seeing my doctor anyway and wasn't upset...

Tuesday December 23rd, when I saw my doctor he was quite upset that they didn't keep me at the ER. Because I'd been on prednisone since December 7th with getting worse - on a high dosage too! Reflecting upon his expression he was staring at me for what seemed like minutes wondering what to do. He finally told me he was on the fence on putting me in the hospital at that point but because I received the new nebulizer medication and did well on it he said I was ok to go home. However he told me that if I couldn't last two hours in between needing a treatment I was going into the hospital!

That night I started struggling. The following day - Christmas Eve - I really struggled! I rationalized it all...if I go the next time without being able to wait the two hours...At around 1:30pm David finally stepped in and took me to the ER. First we called the dr. He called a hospital ahead of us, thankfully David thought to do this because the dr. called back saying that hospital was full of flu patients. No Room At The Inn! <

I can't say enough about the wonderful treatment at Plaza Medical Center in FTW. They were excellent! I stayed until about 4pm on Friday December 26th. Oh while I was there I had visitors come over to see me! Melinda and Keenan Caruthers with their children. It was a sweet visit!

I have struggled to remain out of the hospital though. I probably should have several times but I'm stubborn and I suppose am doing okay. But has this hampered my ability to get well faster? I'm not sure...all I know is that I'm on the max treatment outside of going to the hospital.

Oh - I did go see my PCP on December 31st because of new / worsening symptoms and the other dr was on vacation. I was diagnosed with pleurisy. UGH I had been taking too much of one of the nebulizer treatments (I have 3 kinds to choose from now!) And it dried my mucus up too much and caused this new PAINFUL issue! Dr. Bartos also took blood work because of the cramping in my muscles. He told me I could take magnesium for it, which was a life saver! I was also prescribed potassium but only took it once. It makes me feel really funny....so I've tried to eat a lot of food with high potassium...

Tomorrow I go back to the pulmonologist. David hopes they'll stick me back into the hospital - I think he is tired of seeing me yo-yo back in forth. I really feel that my body doesn't like the oral prednisone and responded best to the IV stuff. It's the only thing that's different. I just hope we get to the bottom of it!

Valentine Card Holder

I shamefully admit that 3 years is way too absent! LOL I warned my sister that I didn't think I could do it ;)

I was looking for something today and found a cute Valentine Card Holder I'd made and thought I'd make a quick tutorial for the teachers to use in their classroom at school. Now I'm sharing it with you :D YOUR WELCOME! HAHAHA

Here's the original masterpiece. I used an old Stampin' Up set called Happy Hearts and stamped on Whisper White CS. I used Real Red CS for the front.

Here's the Tutorial. Happy Crafting!

a YEAR!!!?????

It doesn't seem like a year has past since I last posted! WOW... so I just wanted to put something up so I can say "I posted something"...

LOL

Reading

While on my Christmas break I've read 3 books.

  1. The Girl That Chased The Moon - This book was very imaginative. I liked it because it was really outside the box. If you have an open mind it is a good choice. This was the book club choice last time but I didn't go to the meeting so I was catching up.
  2. Wicked - I bought this book thinking it was a children's book...lol...I liked the book but was disappointed that the author had foul language and suggestive scenes. It's a good book other wise. This is written as the point of view from the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz. I liked how it made me think of how she thought and felt about the shoes and everything in her life that happened.
  3. Son of a Witch - This was the sequel to the Wicked book. I loved this one. However, the same as above with lang. and scenes :( But it was wonderful. I couldn't put it down. I have to get the third book now! :)
So when I finally get to the book store I'll let you know! I have to read the next book club book before getting the third of the series though!

My Cute Nephew

Yesterday we celebrated Christmas with my Dad and Cheryl. This is my nephew, Liam, at the table where we ate lunch.

16 days until he turns 2 yrs old. Isn't he cute? :)

Purse

This is my purse I made

Here's a fanny pack that I made
(I had no pattern either!):

Up to date

Happy New Year!!!
Well it's been a long time. I started this blog hoping to try to make sure I kept up with it but it is just like facebook - I don't keep up with either! :)

What's new?

  • Matthew moved in with his dad during the summer
  • Aaron is a senior this year and we've just started the 2nd semester. I pray he'll graduate!
  • I'm still sewing after school with the Aspire program. I also have 2 craft classes and a community service class.
  • I'm still involved with Boy Scouts,
  • PTSA as the Historian and helping with the Project Celebration,
  • C.A.R. that meets once a month.
  • Let's not forget the family book club.

So I'm busy....most of the time! :)

I'm going to hunt down some recent pictures of items I've created recently....more posts to come!

Can you believe that David hates this tree?
It reminds me of my Grandma's front yard when I was a child. She had one of these trees too. It is messy but it's okay with me because it reminds me of Grandma!

Matthew graduated from High School. It really seems impossible. I'm so sad he is now so grown. I wish I had more time with him. Although I'm not the best at everything...I can honestly say I did TRY my best.

Here is the video...

I've been busy doing all sorts of stuff...

Prom is this coming weekend and I'm working the after party (please pray - by 6am on Sunday morning I'll be reallllly tired...lol)

After school sewing projects - last week we made potato sacks and this week we made crayon roll-ups. (hopefully pictures will soon be uploaded)

Sewing for Boyscouts. I made 19 neckerchiefs for scouts a few weeks ago. Took a while for that!

Stamping - very, very little. I've made Mother's Day cards and that's about all...sigh

More to come soon! :)

Tote-ally Project

Yesterday we went to have our taxes done. The lady who does them is wonderful. She doesn't make us pay because she just loves to help people! Anyway I wanted to give her a gift that showed how much we appreciate her, so I made this.

unfortunately I didn't check the pictures I took before giving it to her. These were the only  ones that showed up good enough.

I purchased the pattern (tote-ally) from Becky Roberts at: http://inkingidaho.blogspot.com/
She has wonderful step by step tutorials!

Stamp set: (Retired) Stampin Up Long-Time Friend
and 2009-2010 Stampin Up Hostess set Country Morning
Paper: All from Stampin Up Very Vanilla, Choc. Chip, and DSP (Retired) Persian Breeze
Punches used: Stampin Up - Trio Flower, Word Window, Scallop Trim Border (Sale-a-Bration Catalog), Round Tab, Scallop Circle, 1 1/4" circle,
and a non-su border punch (was over priced and hard to use but pretty)
accessories: Crop-A-Dile, Jumbo Eyelets, Choc. Chip double stitched grosgrain ribbion 1", Choc. Chip grosgrain ribbion 1/4", rhinestone brads, jumbo grommets in very vanilla
Coloring the images: I stamped using Black Staz-on then water colored with my Aqua-Painter and water color crayons. I used the color spritzer tool and Choc. Chip, Creamy Caramel, and Bashful Blue markers for the splatter backgound (looks really good IRL)

I hope you love it as much as I loved making it! BTW: the lady really liked it!

Bad Weather Day

What do you do when you get a day off work for ice on the bridges? Well I mostly slept. I did make an atempt to sew but my machine broke again! I just lowered the feed dogs and they are stuck down :( So there goes anything getting done till I get that fixed.

I found these pictures on my computer of old things I had made. I have been too busy playing with My Digital Studio to make any "real" stampin things.
Here is some older projects:

Trip to Branson, MO.

David and I had a wonderful trip to Branson on Dec.4th. We saw Andy Williams in concert, ate at the Moon River Grill, and road the train the next day. We drove back the next day! I was in a lot of pain from the car ride but it was well worth it!

We ate lunch with a friend of David's on the way...

This is where we stayed for the night...

Us at the concert...

A man took our picture but my camera was set to take this weird color :( I'm going to try to photoshop it!

And here's ANDY:

Ever try taking a picture of yourself...hahahaha

Homecoming 2009

This past Fall I made these for Matthew and Aaron. Wouldn't you know it...Aaron got the Pig Flew and had a terrible temp. So he didn't get to wear his :( I ended up having it as well. At least we were able to go get medication that same day so it didn't get anyone else in our family. Aaron's fever went over 104, he was hardly responding...so glad that is over!

Here's the garters for homecoming that I made:

Aaron's Junior garter:

From the past

I made this last year. It was a lot of work but it was fun to do! I am trying to get my inspiration back to start doing more stuff. There's just not enough time! HA-HA-HA!!!

Anyway on with the share....

PACK RAT!

Most of you know that David and I've been going to a couples Bible study. Well it ended last week. I've been struggling for years with my pack-rat ways. So a few weeks ago I decided to try and defeat that little monster!

Here are some of the little "piles" I seem to create thoughout the week! :( David is really kind, but I know it gets to him! And it does bother me but I want to keep it all....lol....but in our little house we just don't have the storage space to keep it all. I will take pictures of the clean up I did....after I clean it up again! I seem to found more things to put there again today. I cleaned yesterday...why do I do the things I do???? :) I'm my daddy's daughter, and I take after my Grandmother too! But I'm TRYING....doesn't that count? :(

At the top of this pile is fleece for school. The 3 boxes are my important stuff! *L*

In the back we have Boy Scout info. Unfortunately this is the only place in the house we can store this. So it always looks junky there. However in front of that is another box of sewing stuff my purse and book bag from 6 days ago when we went to church. The little fishing tackle box is supposed to go on top of the Scout box in the back. The tackle box doesn't have tackle, it has merit badges and rank advancement badges. The scout stuff is very organized! - and yes I did organize it! :P  My problem isn't that I don't organize anything...it's that I acumulate too much and don't want to weed out anything. I want it all for that one day when I MIGHT need it! *L* I guess it's that BSA Motto "Always be prepared!"...sigh

Shoots and Ladders

We got a new light fixture for the kitchen. However, David needed a new ladder. He's been in need of one for years! The only one he has was one that leans on things so he went today and got an A frame one! So he's got the old one down....and the new one will go up soon. Shoot, I hope it won't be too long with the light fixture gone. LOL We'll see.

David's Ladder

I hate this light! It never turns on when you need it and it's ugly!
Wait till you see the new one! I'll make sure to take pictures when it's up!
